The Trip [12 Jun 2007|12:16am]
Just got back from the 3 day trip and I'm very tired. I'll briefly write down the places I visited just so I won't forget them afterwards, might add more when I'm not as tired as I am right now.

Day 1:
- depart from Toronto, reach Kingston, did not get off the bus, just look around real quickly on the bus
- reached 1000 islands where all the tourist get on the ferry and take pictures as the ferry go along the river
- finish visiting 1000 islands, move on to Montreal and later Quebec City, where we have some great dinner. fyi, it takes forever to travel to Quebec city from Toronto by land transportation, check the map if you are interested
- end of the day, go back to hotel to sleep -.-

Day 2:
- go to the old town in Quebec city, we visit the upper town first, then the lower town. btw, just so you know, Quebec City is probably the prettiest city out of all I've seen in Canada
- leave for Montreal, reach the Olympic stadium
- (I have to google to find the full name of this) Notre-Dame de Montre'al Basilica, the church where Celine Dion get married.
- St. Joseph Oratory
- end of teh day, go back to hotel and sleep (we get to walk down the chapaigne street to check out the shops and stuff, fyi there are lots of strip dance club around there)

Day 3:
- leave Montreal for Ottawa, went to Mint and Parliament Hill
- went to Civilization Musuem
- leave Ottawa, eat lunch, go to this place where they have medieval buildings and people (dress like one, not actual)
- reach Toronto

Might post some pictures later, we'll see.

Anime North [26 May 2007|11:19pm]
So I went to Anime North mostly because of Hiu aka LVXS's concert, his band name is Spider's Kiss and it's shown here. The sound is loud like crazy, I got dizzy after the concert but still it's pretty awesome seeing them rocking on stage. First time for me to see a live concert I believe, the vocal of the band kinda get drowned by the loud guitar and drumset. Anyway, still pretty awesome, I kinda imagine seeing a HYDE or any J-Rock concert this close will be extremely awesome, I remember Leanne telling me how close he is from HYDE during his North America's tour, the whole experience must have been surreal, somehow I feel.

[Cosplayer photos @ Flickr]

The exhibition at anime north is kinda boring for me, didn't get anything as I want to save money. There's a lot of otaku stuff, cute drawings, buttons and stuffy animals or plushies for those girls, some Gundam model, stuff like that. I'm not too interested in getting any seeing I might move pretty soon. Lots of cosplayers, like a LOT. Yuna, Cloud, Rikku, Tifa, Naruto, Sasuke, Ed and Winny from FMA, Sailor Moon, Pyramid Head (from SH), some guy that dress like girls (I saw one guy dressed as Sailor Moon, like WTF), pretty awesome in general. Cosplay takes a lot of courage so props to those people who manage to walk around in the costume and kind enough to take photos with whoever request them to. Maybe someday I'll cosplay (if I'm crazy enough), it's like one of those thing you'll put on "things to do before you die" list. I also saw some parents that brought their kid to the convention, some parents even cosplay themselves! Not something I would have imagined without seeing them myself.

Got 2 ayu poster (A BEST white and black for CAD $10) from Pacific Mall. Kinda reluctant to get them at first place seeing I might move soon, anyway I got them just so I don't come back without buying anything. btw, I went to these places with Karan (kikubelle) and Shelley (caffeinated), though I do end up walking around by myself simply because I don't really enjoy walking with girls as they can spend the longest time looking and picking stuff while I have nothing to do but to wait. I'm just not shopping kind of person, but my dad do like to shop though, probably a more talented shopper than my mom, who enjoys shopping too. I don't know, just not my kind of thing, I could shop for books, gadgets and CDs, but not cute little stuff or clothings.

That's my story. What I'll do next is to launch the almost completed portal page for Channel-Ai, mihimacafe (Ree-chan, we still need to decide if we should go with phpBB2 or 3). And then there's buying tickets to fly to New York, my parents are going to travel around Ontario while they're here for my graduation and they plan to visit around New York and California (my sister lives there). So the plan now is that I'll meet them in New York (yo, Leanne!), then follow the tour thing they have planned, then fly back to California to my sister's place and visit around. If I do visit US, please take care of Ch-Ai for me, Aprilis! (and Ree-chan, you wanna be a mod for ch-ai? I know you're already a mod for quite a few forum, but if you can manage I'll gladly give you moderator status, you're just too good! ;).

Random post [15 May 2007|08:46pm]
I'm back in LJ again, I think it's looking good that I do come back and make posts instead of not posting for infinitely long. Anyway, I have this feeling of guilty, sort of, when posting entries here. People do comment on my entries, but I didn't comment on theirs! This give me this guilty feeling really, like the tell me what they feel but I don't tell them what I think about the stuff they wrote. Bad, I'm bad, so I'll try to post comment more, if I do have something to say that is. :p

I got all the results for my 4th year yesterday and guess what? Graduation with distinction, oh yeah! lol, I was thinking my cumulative average would be lower after left with 2 courses that haven't update the marks one week back. I thought I did really bad on the laser and electro-optic course but it turns out I got a 12 on that course, like totally WTF! It's the only 12 I got for this year, and fyi, the grade here is out of 12 i.e. 12 is A+, 11 is A, 10 is A- etc. So my cumulative average for 4 years is 10.1, better than I have expected seeing I totally screw up my 3rd year and is losing my passion of studying in 4th year as well. fyi, the program I'm in is called "Engineering Physics", a totally weird and retarded program that nobody knows, making it hard for me to find a job. *shakes head*

Here's my marks )

So that's it. My parents coming here around early June and I'm looking for a place for them right now. I found one that's quite cheap on craiglist earlier, maybe it will work out.

Last but not least, congrats to spellcheck for reaching the age of sweet 17!!11111235!! Happy birthday spelling nazi! Have a great day and enjoy your life! 17 is a good age to do something big, like throwing eggs at your teacher, roar like crazy in the middle of night and spam your friends' facebook just because you feel like crap. I've done none of them unfortunately and I kinda regret now. ;_; Life is sad when you're 23, I'm serious.

Vista [11 May 2007|04:40pm]
Installed it on my computer, works nicely, even the updates work lol. :D Need to explore more when I have the time. fyi, I installed it on my 2nd HDD, I have 2, remember? Maybe not, anyway, I have 2, so one's XP another Vista. The interface looks quite good and wierd at the same time. Maybe I just can't get used to a visual style other than those made by heylove. I'll post some screenshot later perhaps when I switched to the Vista OS! It actually run quite fast, better than I thought. ;)

MyCSS was mentioned on Weblog Tools Collections' "A Plugin A Day (APAD)" series, check the WordPress dashboard! :) Oh, just so you know I do read those entries in my friends page, just need to comment more! And I guess I won't be updating my LJ layout for a while, I guess most people just look at their own LJ friends page so in the end the layout is made for yourself! Just my 2 cents. :p

Oh I have some ideas too, besides review and biography, should we add some casual posting like J-Pop rants, news and stuff to the blog? It might get the blog updated more frequently and perhaps it gives a more personal touch to the blog too, if it has been overly serious so far. :p

P.S. The screenshots are done in Vista using Paint, sorry for the huge size! :p

Revive this LJ? [01 May 2007|03:48am]
Well I don't know, I'm not that keen a writer and I just don't write much in general. Everytime I think of keeping the habit of writing, I just end up not doing it after very short period of time. Anyway, maybe I can try again. I'll just write short entries each time and hopefully get this thing update more often.

So yeah, my last entry is about finishing the blog theme which is like n years ago. I recently finished the new "CHU-LIP" theme and it's looking pretty good. The banner isn't the best since the graphic taken from the offiicial site isn't that high quality and well composed in my opinion. Anyway, glad most members likes the current layout.

The recent internal server error for the forum is kinda killing me. I sent a few support messages to the host and all I got back is extremely useless. I just sent a huge rant to the host again and hopefully the problem can be pinpoint and fixed this time.

I need a new layout for this LJ, can anyone suggest where I can get those codes? I notice Aprilis just changed her layout recently, it's looking great, where do you get that Aprilis? I'm an LJ noob so yeah, help me out where I can get nice code to work with, since LJ overrides are stupid to the maximum and is not for XHTML pro *pose* like me who is more used to the regular markup lol. :p

Currently looking for jobs, have a few plans that need to carry out such as learning C#, Channel-Ai wiki, weekly get together for the ch-ai, coding the portal page, mihimaru forum etc. ;) Lots to do, so let's get started and get these thing off my list! :D

I don't like web interface so this post is done in w.bloggar, and will continue be so. Web interface sucks, and if your browser crash all you can do is say bye bye to your half-written entry. ;_;

Done [16 Dec 2006|05:22am]
I'm done with the new blog theme, takes me friggin forever just to get things to look the way I want them to be (you can take a look at the "original" theme" to have a "before and after" comparison ;). I think I've been working 3 days almost non-stop on this, tweaking this and that. Anyway, I hope it turns out nicely and hopefully it will give some of our McBloggers the "motivation" to produce articles just like the good old days. :p This is like the first thing I did since my final is over, for the next few weeks I'll probably work on some articles, oh I still need your translation for mihimaru GT Leanne! Or maybe Lainay can help if you're all nice and cute. :p Ah whatever, I'm tired now, good night!

Oh one last thing, I'm thinking of organizing a karaoke contest while I'm still in holiday, Lainay you're in right? We need participants! How about you spellcheck, and Rinoa maybe? Oh whatever, Leanne too, and spyro, Aprilis too and err all McBloggers has to take part. Okay good stuff bye.

Unlucky snow day [05 Dec 2006|01:16pm]
Well, it's kinda unlucky for me. So I stayed in the library studying till late midnight (I have exams this week) and then went to Wendy's to get some food. On my way back, my bike slipped while I'm trying to turn a junction. The road was just too damn slippery with a big piece of ice there, I can't believe how stupid that is. Oh well, just falling might have been okay for me, but guess what, my glasses dropped as I fell and I couldn't find it after I pull myself together. It's dark, I'm short-sighted, there, tell me how am I supposed to find that tiny piece of glasses. I gave up after a while and go home to ask my roomate to help me find it. When we got back there later, he managed to find it after a few minutes of searching and as I expected, there are already cracks on the glasses, most likely some car just ran over it during the period I went home and ask for help. Since I lost it in the middle of a junction, I kinda expected it to happen even though there's not so much car running around at that time. Whatever, that's just one unlucky day for me, despite my effort to stay up late studying. Sucks indeed. :( I might want to get my new glasses soon.

First day of class [07 Sep 2006|10:30pm]
So yeah today is first day of class, nothing much, but quite busy, class from 10:30am till 5:30pm. First class 4MD3, it's about advanced materials for next generation devices, quite interesting, hopefully it'll be a good course. 2nd class 4S03, lasers and electro-optic devices, taught by Dr.Xu, and his TA (teaching assistant) already sent out the first 5 chapter of notes yesterday! Overall, I think this class wouldn't be too bad, since most stuff are already in the notes the TA sent and I just need to read up some references if I'm hardworking enough. 3rd class, 4K03, optical communication or something like that, taught by Berrezin. Have had him before and his class is overall quite easy despite his thick Russian accent and the fact that he mumbles way too much. Whatever, I just want an easy course and hopefully can get a good grade on it. Then comes the notorious 4A06, a design project which I will need to build a racing car that will follow a path and move from starting to ending point. The path is straight, but you will have to make sure you car don't stray off the main track or your attempt will be considered a failure. Weekly written report is required, I guess a lot of work will go into making this happen. The lecture today is just an overview of how tough this course will be and how important teamwork is. I'm most likely going teamed with 2 other Chinese dude, hopefully we'll be able to produce something that actually work. I want a good grade average for this year! :D

I'll probably try to post what I learnt each day starting from now on and if you don't like to read all this crap you should really remove me from your friend list. :p

Holy crap, I earned 20 dollars! [25 Jul 2006|06:05am]
Okay this is really unexpected and exciting, someone donated 20 dollars for a WordPress plugin I wrote! Well, it all started with my sudden interest about the inner working of WordPress and I kinda wanted to practice my PHP skills. Anyway, this is just way too awesome, thank you so much Denis for sending me his modified version of my plugin and also asking for a PayPal address when I don't even ask for any donation in my original plugin post! Before I keep babbling more, the WordPress plugin that caught his attention is "Star Rating for Reviews" (I added the donation button after knowing someone will actually donate for a plugin they like), a simple intuitive plugin that insert pretty rating stars for your reviews. I mainly coded this one for the Channel-Ai blog because I always wanted pretty stars in blog post but I don't want to make it too complicated for other blog writers.

This is really the first time someone rewarded me monetarily for the work I put into my side projects (i.e. not academic or "real" work). Of course all these are done out of interest and I don't really expect any financial returns, but maybe just eventually I can start making some extra money off my interest in stuff like these, which will be really cool. I'm not all that pro in coding in PHP yet, but I think I get motivated a little just to expand my knowledge so I can create and code more things that helps people out in some way. I'm really happy to know people appreciated my work. Even though some users commented with "Great work!", "Nice job!" etc. for my plugins, this guy didn't say a word in my original post and instead, emailed me about his modification of my plugin and his intention to donate money. While some would say "money isn't everything" but his donation really makes me feel that he appreciated my work more than others, in a way.

Denis is a plugin coder himself and this is what he wrote in his reply, which I just gotten in email:
Plugins are always useful, when they work without introducing security holes
(a rare feat in practice). I just sent you $20.
What can I say? I'm flattered, certainly.

Blogging from Flock [16 Jun 2006|09:46pm]

Well, I'm testing publishing entries using Flock since I'm not a hardcore LJ fans and honestly the publishing interface sucks. I want something simple and easy to look at, so yeah, let's try this out! :)

Before I end this post, maybe I should update a little about myself. So, I'm not very satisfied with myself since I haven't got a lot of stuff done so far. I could have worked harder and get more done but I didn't. I haven't finished the Pimsleur Japanese I yet, but I'm getting there, now at lesson 25 I think. -.-

Some stuff that I hope I can get them done before the summer ends:

  • Program in C++ and Java
  • Program with PHP + mySQL
  • Try to do a layout withou using table i.e. pure CSS
  • Finish all 3 levels of Pimsleur Japanese
  • Learn Cantonese
  • Get ready for the upcoming 4th year project:
    • sensors
    • circuits
    • microprocessor
    • review 3rd year stuff
I guess that's about it. So yeah, first post from Flock, woohoo! Firefox is still my main browser, I'm just fooling around with Flock to see what it has to offer.

Blogged with Flock

Bla [08 May 2006|06:37pm]
[ mood | pessimistic ]

It's about time to start writing some crap in this LiveJournal, no? Well, I'm quite sure by now that I'm not a LJ type of person, but yeah, I would still like to write something down just for the heck of it.

So, life is pretty boring lately, despite the spice of Torontonian outing. Jobless summer, what else can be more boring than that? I have no idea how I have survived my first summer here without having any job at all. I remember back then I have some psychology experiments to do and also I'm very keen on learning HTML and PHP. If it's not because of that summer, I would not have made Channel-Ai since I wouldn't have the knowledge to administer a forum like that.

This summer is just pure boring. I've been learning Japanese speaking lately through Pimsleur's Japanese mp3 and those are actually pretty useful. Still, the boringness is still there. I should really stop playing Warcraft just to kill my time because those are really meaningless and I really need to get more work done in the summer.

I don't really have the passion to apply for jobs now, which I don't know why. Probably the failure of my interview and also to failure to obtain a visa to go to NYC with my mum, and it feels like nothing is going as the way I hoped. So yeah, the summer looks pretty blank to me right now which is really bad. I hope it can be a little more meaningful honestly, but on the other hand I'm not that passionate about making stuff to happen right now. Waking up in the morning become so meaningless to me, what I should do next? Online? Warcraft? What's next, cook some food maybe? Check forum and blog? Learn more Japanese? Well, boring is the word, and meaningless, pointless, without emotion.

Where can I find my passion to do something? What can I do to make me feel that I'm truely living? I'm sick of summer already, even though it just started not "that" long ago. It's not like I'm that looking forward for school either. I'm just in this phase where you just don't feel like doing anything and yet feel frustrated about not doing anything.

I need breathe some fresh air and find some way to improve my life. It's really frustrating.

My interview failed! [21 Mar 2006|01:50pm]
[ mood | disappointed ]

I just came back from my interview with L3 Wescam. Guess what? Right before the interview started the interviewing lady told me "Due to security screening (or something like that) which require you to be a Canadian citizen, you are not qualified for this position". Of course, I'm very dissapointed upon hearing this news, and she ask me if I would like to carry out the interview as a practice for my future interview so I agreed. Afterall, I'm prepared and I hope it's not for nothing.

(Wescam is a company specialized in gyrostabilized multi spectral imaging sensors for aircrafts and moving platforms and their contractors including NASA, NYPD, US Navy, US Marines and military department in other countries. Now you know why their engineering department need special "security", don't ya!)

It's a nice talk we have there and she asked me a few things about my academic background and then my interest in photography. You know, Wescam is a company specialized in imaging system and they do have divisions that's working on specialized lens for various purpose, including entertainment, so the lady is kinda interested about my photography background too. Anyway, the whole interviewing process is nice and smooth and I really think I would stand a good chance if I am eligible for this job. Now I'm can't even hoped for getting acceptance no matter how I did in the interview. Everything just ended before the interview even started. That's not good, I really need to know if I'm worthy of getting a position, am I competent or no?

Anyway, I take this as a good experience for my future job hunting. I already pictured what will happen if I do get this internship and work for 16 months and skipping a year of university. Too bad, I guess I don't have a chance for that now. Still, the good thing about this is I might have the chance to visit my sister at California, go to New York with my mum, and maybe even go back to Malaysia. There's always two sides for an outcome. I'm not too dissapointed, probably I should say I'm just really unlucky (but lucky enough to get an interview offer).

Whatever, now I need to work on an assignment due tomorrow. This is my first formal interview and I think I did learn something throughout the process. I'll be better prepared next time, I'm pretty sure. :)

Someone died [15 Feb 2006|01:02am]
[ mood | weird ]

One 19 year old female McMaster student died while crossing the road yesterday at around 6.15pm. I actually passed by the scene at around 7pm, not like very close but I saw police sealing that area and a truck was stopped there, then there's some stuff on the floor, I told myself it's a bike and I don't know what happened by then. There's actually 2 reporters there, one with a camera trying to shoot some stuff. I was walking to the library by then, the road where it happened is just beside it, and it's a fairly straight road so cars usually drive really fast there.

Anyway, the point is she was killed by a truck. It's winter time now so the road is fairly slippery, and I have no idea how this all happened, maybe she slipped while riding her bike across the road? Or her brake just doesn't work when it should have worked? I don't really know, but the fact that she's riding a bike and listening to music (according to this news source) gives me the chill. I cycle to school every single day, and I listen to my iPod while riding my bike too. It could have been me who was knocked down by the truck, you never know. fyi, my bike's brake doesn't work and I usually use my leg to slow it down, via friction. I don't ride too fast when I know I have to stop, but still, I know it's dangerous stuff.

I wonder what will her parents feel like? Daughter growing till 19, send her to school hoping she has a great time there and all of a sudden she's gone. I feel sorry for her and her family, friends. I think it's very hard to accept such a cruel accident. I hope the authorities will start to put a speed limit on "that" road to prevent accident like that to happen in the future.

Many people just don't play by rules while crossing the road. Honestly, sometimes you see there's no car you just cross it without using the traffic light. I think that's acceptable, unless you're trying to run across the road while a car is speeding towards your direction. Still, if we are unlucky, we will be hit no matter what. Maybe you just slipped while you could have made it, or maybe the car driver just didn't pay attention to the traffic signal i.e. it's red light and he should have stopped his car.

Whatever, just this news give me the chill because I was there witnessing the whole police sealing the area and later on found out she ride her bike to school and listen to music at the same time, just like me. It makes me wonder if something like that will happen to me. I'll be careful in the future, of course. But sometimes, thing just happen when you lower your guard even just a little. Life is just too unpredictable.

I wish everything goes well with the victim's family and friends.

Procrastination [13 Feb 2006|03:05pm]
[ mood | okay ]
[ music | 浜崎あゆみ - SEASONS ]

I just read about this article on LifeHacker, and find myself an avoider type of procrastinator. I actually hoped they have some helpful hint for people to stop procrastination, but there's none! Well, whatever, at least you get to know yourself a little bit more after reading these. What type of procrastinator are you? Or do you not procrastinate?

There are many ways to avoid success in life, but the most sure-fire just might be procrastination. Procrastinators sabotage themselves. They put obstacles in their own path. They actually choose paths that hurt their performance.

Why would people do that? I talked to two of the world's leading experts on procrastination: Joseph Ferrari, Ph.D., associate professor of psychology at De Paul University in Chicago, and Timorthy Pychyl, Ph.D., associate professor of psychology at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. Neither one is a procrastinator, and both answered my many questions immediately.

  1. Twenty percent of people identify themselves as chronic procrastinators. For them procrastination is a lifestyle, albeit a maladaptive one. And it cuts across all domains of their life. They don't pay bills on time. They miss opportunities for buying tickets to concerts. They don't cash gift certificates or checks. They files income tax returns late. They leave their Christmas shopping until Christmas eve.

  2. It's not trivial, although as a culture we don't take it seriously as a problem. It represents a profound problem of self-regulation. And there may be more of it in the U.S. than in other countries because we are so nice; we don't call people on their excuses ("my grandmother died last week") even when we don't believe them.

  3. Procrastination is not a problem of time management or of planning. Procrastinators are not different in their ability to estimate time, although they are more optimistic than others. "Telling someone who procrastinates to buy a weekly planner is like telling someone with chronic depression to just cheer up," insists Dr. Ferrari.

  4. Procrastinators are made not born. Procrastination is learned in the family milieu, but not directly. It is one response to an authoritarian parenting style. Having a harsh, controlling father keeps children from developing the ability to regulate themselves, from internalizing their own intentions and then learning to act on them. Procrastination can even be a form of rebellion, one of the few forms available under such circumstances. What's more, under those household conditions, procrastinators turn more to friends than to parents for support, and their friends may reinforce procrastination because they tend to be tolerant of their excuses.

  5. Procrastination predicts higher levels of consumption of alcohol among those people who drink. Procrastinators drink more than they intend to—a manifestation of generalized problems in self-regulation. That is over and above the effect of avoidant coping styles that underlie procrastination and lead to disengagement via substance abuse.

  6. Procrastinators tell lies to themselves. Such as, "I'll feel more like doing this tomorrow." Or "I work best under pressure." But in fact they do not get the urge the next day or work best under pressure. In addition, they protect their sense of self by saying "this isn't important." Another big lie procrastinators indulge is that time pressure makes them more creative. Unfortunately they do not turn out to be more creative; they only feel that way. They squander their resources.

  7. Procrastinators actively look for distractions, particularly ones that don't take a lot of commitment on their part. Checking e-mail is almost perfect for this purpose. They distract themselves as a way of regulating their emotions such as fear of failure.

  8. There's more than one flavor of procrastination. People procrastinate for different reasons. Dr. Ferrari identifies three basic types of procrastinators:

    • arousal types, or thrill-seekers, who wait to the last minute for the euphoric rush.

    • avoiders, who may be avoiding fear of failure or even fear of success, but in either case are very concerned with what others think of them; they would rather have others think they lack effort than ability.

    • decisional procrastinators, who cannot make a decision. Not making a decision absolves procrastinators of responsibility for the outcome of events.

  9. There are big costs to procrastination. Health is one. Just over the course of a single academic term, procrastinating college students had such evidence of compromised immune systems as more colds and flu, more gastrointestinal problems. And they had insomnia. In addition, procrastination has a high cost to others as well as oneself; it shifts the burden of responsibilities onto others, who become resentful. Procrastination destroys teamwork in the workplace and private relationships.

  10. Procrastinators can change their behavior—but doing so consumes a lot of psychic energy. And it doesn't necessarily mean one feels transformed internally. It can be done with highly structured cognitive behavioral therapy. (eyn: lol?)

iPod madness! [23 Jan 2006|11:59pm]
[ mood | blah ]
[ music | 大塚 愛 - 星くず ]

Well, it's been a long while since I last updated, isn't it? Sorry minna, I'm kinda lazy when it comes to LJ, forgive me! Haha, thanks for the nudge Lainay, I feel ashamed after you sent me that and I just have to update or I'll feel bad about it. :P

So, what's up with you guys/girls lately? I know Leanne has moved to the dorm, which is pretty darn awesome isn't it? Hope you enjoy yourself there! Lainay is in California now? Well, haven't seen you lately, you still owe me a karaoke entry! Remember, the deadline is February 3, which means it's coming soon! Spellie and spyro is still enjoying your high school life, isn't it? Haha, high school so far away from me now, I feel old, really. :( Lastly, Rii-chan, why have you abandoned your LJ? Your last entry is Christmas, which is worse than me lol. Come on, nobody can beats me when it comes to updating LJ. ;)

Okay, so I got my iPod 30GB Video last week. It's pretty darn awesome, oh yeah! Damn, spent me 400 Canadian dollars, it better be good or it will all be a waste of money, isn't it? So, the reason I got this iPod is that I feel kinda boring at the library, and I hope I can stay at library for most of the time throughout the week, maybe even weekend. You know, I wanna do well this term, but so far it doesn't look so good really. I don't know, I have to apply for jobs too, but I'm too lazy. Argh, I suck. Boo, sucker! Boo, never mind.

Back to the topic. I got this iPod and I've loaded it with tons of J-Pop + a little C-Pop. Guess what, every single Laruku album is in my iPod now, you gotta be proud aren't you, Leanne? I don't really listen to them all though, still, it's pretty awesome I think. Thanks to spellcheck, I manage to figure out how iTunes and iPod works, afterall she got an iPod for Christmas and has more experience with it than me.

Here's some picture of my iPod, take a look:

My Desk with iPod

iPod

Can you notice how clear the video looks on my iPod? OMG, the video is such an awesome feature, at first I thought the video will look all crappy and ugly but damn, it just look so fine! Usually those iPod on display don't show you the video capability, you really have to try it out yourself to know how good the video actually looks like. To me, it's almost as good as a laptop LCD screen playing movies, if not better. :p The screen size is just about right, I can actually read those hard sub on the anime I uploaded to my iPod.

So, that's the story of my iPod. I know spryo really wanted one too, don't you, bimbomaster? No worries, I bet you can get one soon, I bought this iPod myself using the money I earned last summer. So yeah, it's kinda harder for you since you're in high school still. :p If you parents is kind enough, you might be able to get one soon!

Err, I think I run out of things to say already as you can notice. I'm not going to talk about my school life or anything coz everyday is just the same, and there's always lab report and assignments each week, which makes it even more boring. For Channel-Ai, the karaoke contest deadline is coming soon, for those of you who haven't taken part in the contest, please do so by all means. I also updated the banner of Channel-Ai blog lately, I don't know if it looks good or not. Lainay, if you're reading this, would you mind to make a banner for the blog? In fact, Rii-chan too, if you're reading this, I hope you can help me with it, as I really love the banner you made for your Beautiful Fighter forum.

See, DreamHost has this crazy hosting promotion again and I'm thinking I might get a new domain name and work on a new site. So far I've been thinking maybe a YUI fansite or forum will be nice, but I hope you guys can give me some suggestion too about what type of website I should work on. If some of the site your are looking for aren't available anywhere yet, tell me what it is, maybe I can make it available for you, but the bottom line is it gotta be something I enjoy doing! :)

P.S. This entry is dedicated to Leanne's "evergreen" article. An iPod entry for Leanne is just perfect, isn't it? :D

eyn v.2 - ainu [27 Dec 2005|04:45am]
[ mood | tired ]
[ music | 大塚 愛 - 羽ありたまご ]

Okay, finally I'm back, this time with a new LJ layout, as promised to the coolest Lainay. Guess what, I spent over 3 hours on that, have to look through the messy LJ code and try to figure out what property belongs to which section. It really takes time, but now I have the code properly commented so if anyone wanna use the code, everything should be simple and straightforward. :) Thanks to Tia-kun for the code and thanks to Lainay for sending me the code.

So I named my LJ version 2 layout as ainu, I guess you can pretty much figure out why after you look at the banner. Seems like the LOVE COOK photoshoot is all about dogs, I didn't know Ai-chin actually love dogs too. She should have taken promo picture with her 2 dearest rabbit, CHOCO and COCOA, or maybe she's leaving them for her BEST album :p The main colour scheme is green, because I believe green colour is good for your eyes. I'm not sure if the layout works in Safari or not, Leanne, mind to tell me if it works? I'm not using body background to center the image so it might be off depending on how the browser render the page. Lucida Grande is the main font used, Arial is the replacement should you have no Lucida Grande in your computer. Suggestion and critiques are appreciated.

I believe most of you blog writers has had a great Christmas, spellcheck got an iPod, Leanne got her crazy iPod stereo, Lainay got her cool Fly Pentop Computer, how about Rinoa and spyro? Me, I got nothing. Sad, so sad. I'm actually thinking of getting an iPod today (it's Boxing Day in Canada), but the store has sold out all their iPod, and it's a huge electronic store too. Gah, maybe I'm fated not to spend money on gadget like that. -.-

I would not have updated my LJ layout and posted this journal if it's not because Lainay said she wrote the Berryz Koubou article just because I said I gonna update this for each article posted. I'm really touched by that *sob*, so here you are, I give you what I promised. This is just the first LJ entry for the deal I made in my last entry, I dedicate this rather short update to Rinoa's Ami Suzuki article. Once again Rinoa, you did an excellent job conveying what you have in mind, and I'm glad I give her music a try. I didn't know Ami's doing techno music lol (and they are pretty good). I'm slow. :(

I haven't have time to reply each blog article so far, but I'm slowly catching up. See, so far in this holiday, I have updated all the forum style with the latest NoseBleed and AdInfinitum template base. I also did the chatroom thingy, which I hope you guys find it fun and interesting. And now I updated this LJ, hopefully I'll have time and patient to update you guys about my life (if you're interested) using LJ. I still have to do 2 article, one is LOVE JAM and another is LOVE COOK. I also have to announce the Channel-Ai Karaoke contest soon, so people can start preparing themselves during the holidays. Wow, lots of stuff, what a busy holiday!

I'll talk to you guys later, I believe I still have more to share, but I'm rather tired now. What's the time now? 5.10am, yes, the LJ layout update is killing me! Haha, hopefully Lainay will find this update refreshing because that's what I promised before I log off for dinner "yesterday". I hope I won't be known as someone who never keep his promise. :p

Server downtime, books etc. [12 Sep 2005|11:05pm]
[ mood | blah ]
[ music | Ayumi Hamasaki - HEAVEN ]

Here's a short entry to sum up what's happening and going to happen these few days. First of all, there's a power outage in Los Angeles and Channel-Ai server is affected by it, resulting in server downtime from around 4pm to 11pm EST. Luckily now everything is back to normal and I'm glad the outage doesn't do much damage to our forum and blog database. I need to finish the LOVE PUNCH review and post it soon, probably by tomorrow or Wednesday.

I need to buy some new books for this new school year, and all of the book is really really expensive, that's aroudn 100 Canadian dollars above. I got my friend to get an Amazon associate thingy and I'll buy some of the course text from Amazon, as they offer free shipping and there's no taxes on those online purchase, which is great (i.e. 15% cheaper). I have get to known about most of my courses now and I can say this year will be a tough year for me, lots of assignment each week and there's projects for several courses, I think I can do well on those.

Suddenly I remember about the emotional training by spellcheck, that is to write an essay about dumb people. I will try to write something about it, but I can almost guarantee it won't be too interesting. I think I can do that this weekend or something, if it's still worth doing.

I think that's about it. I'm looking forward for next week, as we can get to see Ai's new Planetarium performances on Music Fair 21, Music Station and more. Can't wait for those, and I'm going to make a new forum style too when the official site changes its layout. The deadline for the banner contest is coming up too, spirus, where's your banner? Anyway, I hope the contest can be successfully held and I hope the winner will enjoy the prizes, and participants have fun during the process too. :)

Lastly, I would like to announce that Jason has finally gotten his LiveJournal account already, that is [info]phoenice. Add him to your friend list if you're McBlog members, and try to know more about him because he's a cool guy. :)

See ya guys around. Enjoy your school days! :D *pose* (I just have to do this, or else the journal seems incomplete)

Planetarium [25 Aug 2005|11:05pm]
[ mood | accomplished ]
[ music | Ai Otsuka - drop. ]

Haha, it's been a while since I last post a journal here, that's just so me, as I'm really lazy when it comes to this stuff and I don't have a habit of writing daily journal YET. I'll try to, though, it's nice to record down every little things that happen in your life, so you can look back and see what kind of person you are back then. :)

So, I was working on the Channel-Ai community blog these few days. I got the blog uninstalled and reinstall with a clean database. I added some pages for Ai's TV Performances, Ai's Magazines and Ai's Web Mobile. My plan is to include screenshots and ratings for each of Ai's TV performances but that will take a long long time to complete the project. Maybe I should seek help from some other members of Channel-Ai. I'm not sure if the community blog thing will success or not, because if nobody apply to be the author then there's not point to keep it going. Personally I will be adding Ai Otsuka stuff to the blog but then for other J-Pop artists I definitely need someone else to write about them. Hopefully there's some passionate and cool members applying for the author job. *pray*

My work term for the summer is almost over, I'm guessing tomorrow is my last day of work? Heh, I'm not sure though, since I skipped 2 days of work while my leg is injured and I'm wondering if I should make up for those absence. This summer has been pretty busy for me since I have to work for the weekdays, but then I think I gained some knowledge about electronics stuff such as GPS navigation and assembly language. Another major accomplishment of this summer is that I founded Channel-Ai, the now largest Ai Otsuka community on the web! Haha, I'm proud of myself, yes, how can I be such a genius to create such a nice forum for such a cute and wonderful artist. I rock, worship me! :P

Okay, I think I'm not acting like a 21 year old over there, too much reading on those 13 year old journals already, I think I'm infected by some kind of Monay virus now *pose*. Err, so yeah, boboai uploaded Planetarium radio rip and drop. to the forum. I listened to both of them, and I think I'm a little dissapointed by this single. It's probably not as good as Neko ni Fuusen according to my feeling so far, the thing I don't like about Planetarium is its arrangement. I don't understand why they introduce electric guitar and drumset etc. to such a soft song that has nice flute accompaniment in the background. I would have liked it better if it is as soft as Kingyo Hanabi. "drop." isn't too bad, but then it can get quite annoying repetitive. There, I'm not very satisfied. :(

I'm hoping there will be a acoustic version of Planetarium in Ai's upcoming 3rd album, and I hope they don't use this original version in the album. Okay, enough complaining, Ai is still a great artist that brings us surprises and happiness from time to time, we should thank her for being who she is!

Upcoming projects:
- finalize community blog
- settle financial stuff (credit card, debts, tuition fee etc, adult problem :P)
- setup my new computer when memory arrives (installing OS, set HDD to RAID0, partition etc.)
- finish Momo no Hanabira translation (god, I still remember this!)
- prepare for stupid university (3rd year is tough!)
- Channel-Ai banner contest (winner gets a single, new forum style and custom member title!)

I think I'm finally done with my layout even I already said so in my previous entry. I changed quite a few things after the previous entry and I think the layout right now should be final. I have a hard time trying to make the CSS works in IE with no success, in the end I am forced to changed the CSS so that Firefox will render the page the way IE does, and then I can start fixing those elements with absolute position, e.g. the banner.

It was quite challenging to have both background image and the banner on top, as usually the way people put up a banner is using the background CSS properties by setting no repeat in x and y direction. I did mine with a special class for the image, using position: absolute property, and I think it works out quite good. If any of you can find bugs on this layout, feel free to give me the feedback.

My knees are still very painful right now and I don't think I'll be able to go back to work on Monday. I'm planning to give Glen a call and ask him if I can take the day off, and ask him to send me the work that needs to be done via email so I can do them at home, hopefully. I hate my knees so much right now, I can barely stand up and walking is a pain too. I have a hard time trying to sleep these few days because it was aching during the night. Having injuries is surely not a fun thing to do, I'm so sad right now. ;_;

I just finished my 2nd translation for the Ai's Taiwan Official News, which takes me quite a while because it's probably one of the longest article among the news. I'm kinda dissapointed because apparently not much people appreciate the hard work I put into translating them and nobody replied anything so far! I feel discouraged and I don't think I'll start the next article anytime soon, with nobody appreciate the time I put in to bring Ai's news to all the other Ai's fans.

So far only 2 people has submitted the Channel-Ai banner contest entry. I'm looking for more submission so that we can have a successful and interesting competition. :) <a href="http://www.channel-ai.com/>Channel-Ai</a> loves you. <3
